136. Get Pre-Approved Before Car Shopping

Buying a car? Get pre-approved for financing through your bank or credit union before you walk into a dealership.

Then research the vehicle’s typical selling price and ask several dealers for their full out-the-door price, including fees and taxes.

One more trick: don’t lead with your maximum budget or the monthly payment you want. Negotiate the total price of the car first. Dealers can stretch loan terms and adjust financing to make almost any price look like an affordable monthly payment.

141. Boost Your Immune System with Singing

Here’s another reason to sing in the shower: some research suggests singing may temporarily increase levels of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), an antibody that plays an important role in your body’s first line of defense against germs.

Singing can also help reduce stress and improve your mood, both good reasons to belt out your favorite song when nobody’s listening. It’s certainly not a replacement for sleep, exercise, or a healthy diet, but your private shower concerts may be doing more for you than you thought.

142. Give Your Brain a Splash of Olive Oil

A little extra-virgin olive oil could be a smart addition to your daily diet. Olive oil is a major part of the Mediterranean diet, an eating pattern consistently associated with better cardiovascular and cognitive health.

Researchers are also studying how olive oil may influence the gut microbiome, which has increasingly been linked to brain health through the gut-brain axis. Try drizzling it over vegetables, salads, pasta, or whole-grain bread. You don’t need much—a small splash is an easy way to add healthy fats and flavor at the same time.

143. Your Acne Location Can Offer Clues

Where you break out can sometimes offer clues about what’s irritating your skin, but acne “face maps” aren’t a reliable diagnostic tool.

Diet may play a role for some people, particularly high-glycemic foods and possibly dairy, while whey protein has also been associated with breakouts in some individuals. Location can provide other clues too: forehead acne may be affected by hair products or sweat, while jawline breakouts are commonly associated with hormonal changes.

Instead of blaming one food immediately, look for patterns and experiment with one change at a time.

144. Try a Banana for Period Cramps

Dealing with period cramps? A banana makes an easy snack that may help support your muscles. Bananas contain potassium and some magnesium, two minerals involved in normal muscle function.

Magnesium in particular has been studied for its potential role in reducing menstrual cramps, although a banana alone isn’t a magic cure. Pair it with other magnesium-rich foods like nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, leafy greens, or avocado.

At the very least, you’re getting an inexpensive, nutritious snack that requires absolutely zero preparation, which is pretty appealing when you’re already feeling miserable.
